How To Do Guest Posts The Right Way

If you own a website with a contact form or visible email address, then a message like this probably looks familiar:

Hello sir!

I saw your blog in Google and really enjoyed it! I think your readers would be interested in an article I would like to give you to publish called “[insert generic name here].” Would you mind posting it to your website?”

I’ve gotten them, you’ve gotten them, we’ve all been there. Now ask yourself, does anyone think this really works? Apparently they do else they wouldn’t be doing it. But c’mon, Google is way smarter than this. Consider their link network penalty last year.

Meta Description Tags

Many people are stuck on the belief that users pick sites solely for their ranking, and because of this generally people do not put the amount of work necessary into making a good Meta description tag for their page. People read Meta tags. I know I do.

SEO Meta Tag

Pay attention to the Meta tag

If in your search results you see a website that has your keywords in the title, you are likely to click on it. Though many times, if you are anything like me, you will read through the Meta description to make sure you are getting what you want.

Of course you want to have the keywords in the title, but the Meta tag should be used for more of the tail phrases. You want to let the users know exactly what they should expect from your site. Meta tags should NOT be used to up-sell your site. Use this tag to describe what your site is about and why it is unique.

Generally you want each of your tags to be a 20 to 40 word summary of what is on the web page. Try to include primary and secondary keywords, but, more importantly, make it appealing to users. This is your chance to get the viewer hooked on your site.

Now it is not necessary that you have a Meta tag for each page. In fact, in some cases it is better that you don’t. For example, if your page is targeting longer phrases rather than specific key words, it is advised to go with no Meta tag at all. Such phrases have so many variations it is unlikely you will get a matched hit from search results. However, if those phrases are in the content of the webpage, then Google will take snippets of the page and use that as the Meta tag. That is if you don’t have a Meta tag set for the page already.

Tips on Creating Content

So content is a big thing now in the search world.  A big way that you can succeed in SEO is through content creation; writing on a blog, guest blogging, or any other means by which something you wrote is published somewhere on the internet.  This seems pretty easy, right?  Well it’s a little more difficult than it seems, because not just any content will do; at least not any more.  You can’t just put out some content you came up with in 5 minutes, throw a link in it and expect to succeed in SEO.  Google’s updates ensure that not just any content will do.  Now, you have to create content that is totally original, content that people will love and want to share with everyone they know.  There are some tips that can help you with this, since it is pretty hard to come up with a creative article.

In order to get the maximum benefits, an article must be…

Original

This one is almost a no-brainer. Original content is favored when put against copied, or spun content. Make an article that makes people think in a new way, or make them think to themselves “I’ve never really thought about that before!”.

Relevant

Make sure your content is relevant to your niche. This also applies to when you guest post on someone else’s blog; you don’t want to post something about someone else’s niche and then just throw a link to your site in. Search engines can see that the link you included is not relevant to what that blog normally blogs about.

Up-to-Date

Posting outdated content is probably the most ineffective thing you can do. Why would anybody read something about an event that they already read about 5 days ago? People are less likely to share your content via social networks if the information your content is about is outdated. So make sure that your content hits people at the right time.

and finally…

Catchy

Content that is catchy, funny, or entertaining will most likely get shared around on the social networks. Make content that has a bold message that might shock some people, or make content that is so hilarious that people will just have to share it with their friends. It is also wise that you make the title of your content fun and edgy as well.

That’s about all you need to know about making content that people will enjoy and will want to share it.
